Writing Motivation; or Lack Thereof

You’ve worked all day. You’re tired, hungry, and aggravated. You need to do about 100 things and yet all you want to do is take a nap.

So what motivates you to keep writing? Do you decide it’s something that you do no matter what and type out the required 1000 words a day, knowing they’re crap and probably going to bite it during editing? Wouldn’t it be easier to say, “Screw it tonight” and wonder later why it’s taking you so long to finish you next book? Or is it something different all together?

I wish I had some magic formula that worked for everyone when you are too tired, stressed, depressed (pick and adjective) to write. At this moment I’m frustrated, angry, and determined–all at the same time. So what do I do? I write.

The only way I can stop from throwing my computer through an open window is to sit down and write. I might not write about what’s bothering me, but I have to write something. It’s my stress reliever. I find that when I’m in one of these moods my writing tends to flow better and faster. I get more accomplished and tend to need less editing and re-writes done when I’m writing to relieve stress.

So what else stops you from writing? You work all day and you want to relax. So writing doesn’t relax you? Why? Are you under a deadline for your novel, article, novella? Maybe you’re a deadline writer. You write better under the pressure of a set deadline. Give yourself a deadline and stick with it. Post it on Facebook, Twitter, your blog, website, whatever, so that others hold you accountable. Pressure yourself.

I know I’m not the world’s best author. But I’m not bad either. 🙂 I write for me and let the chips fall where they may. That works for me.

Okay, vent over. Gee, I feel better!

HOUSE CALLS is now available from Amazon, B&N, and Kobo

My latest novel, HOUSE CALLS, is now available for ebook purchase! The book was launched by my wonderful publisher, Soul Mate Publishing, on Wednesday, and finally became available through the other sites this morning.

It is the second book in The Cougar Club series, continuing the saga with Danielle’s story.  Here is the blurb…

After being viciously attacked years ago by a man she trusted, Danielle Reece
has closed herself off from commitment. That is, until she literally trips and
falls for Brad Anderson—a much younger, handsome doctor—who tries to heal her

But when Danielle’s past collides with her present in the form of
a stalker, she must risk her love for Brad, hoping he won’t leave her. But will
the stalker let her live to tell the truth?

I hope some of you will check it out, and please let me know what you think.

Review of Highland Legacy *5 Star*

Cailin lived while her twin brother and mother died in childbirth–and her father never forgave her for it. After all the horrible treatment she suffers at the hands of her father, he still cannot break her spirit or make her stop dreaming of finding true love, which is the only thing she’ll marry for. So when her father chooses to arrange a marriage for her to a much older man to increase his standing, Cailin runs away and finds fast trouble. She also finds the man she’s been waiting for, Conner Fraser.

Conner has sworn his life to the cause and to his beloved country of Scotland. He doesn’t have time for a wife or children. But when he rescues the beautiful, strong-willed Cailin, will he change his mind about love?

Highland Legacy is a fast-paced, action-packed Historical Romance about love, war, and letting go of the past. B.J. Scott does an excellent job of keeping you holding on to the edge of your seat while rooting for these marvelously developed characters. This is a Highlander story you must check out!

Review of MERLYN’S RAVEN *5 Star*

Gwendydd is a young, adventurous teenager who is being raised by foster parents in her Grandfather’s home. On a trip to the market, she meets a mysterious, golden-eyed boy named Myrddin, who is also known by the name Merlyn. Myrddin is an apprentice to a druid priest and has a powerful gift of Sight.

The two feel an instant attraction and love soon blossoms. But with war in the land and Myrddin following his Sight to a higher calling, will the fragile love Gwendydd and Myrddin share survive life’s obstacles?

Merlyn’s Raven is an exciting, engaging, and at times, emotional read that leaves the reader breathless and begging for more. If you love a good Paranormal Romance with a story that draws you in, making you want to jump right into the pages, then you definitely need to check out Merlyn’s Raven by Rose Vanden Eynden.
